N AVAL A PPOINTMENTS. SYDNEY, February 23. The following appointments have been made to H.M.S. Royal Arthur, flagship of the Australian squadron:—Captain T. P. Walker, vice Captain Dickon; Staff-Surgeon Crocker, Surueon Skey. Staff-Engineer Mdgg, Engineers Canning, Woodhouso, Codrington, Weeks; Chaplain, Rev F. A. Sims. Chief-En-gineer Toran has been appointed to H-M.S. Tauranga. PROMOTION OF AN ADMIRAL. LONDON, February 22. A lady returning from a fancy drew, ball at Cologne was frozen to death. HEA VY SALVAGE AWARD. LONDON, February 22. Sir Francis Jcnne, President of the Admiralty division of the High Court of Justice, has awarded tho salvors of the barque Chiltonford, which grounded in tho Mersey in December last, while cn route from Liverpool to Sydney, the sum of £IO,OOO.
