The Government steamer Hinemoa is expected in port from her cruise to the Southern Islands to-morrow afternoon. The- Oreti came off the slip yesterday morning and was immediately berthed at the Queen’s wharf. The Cornwall is credited with drawing more water than any steamer that has entered ’Wellington Harbour. When she visited Wellington some time ago in order to coal she drew just on thirty feet. THE CORNWALL. This fine steamer, chartered to convey the Sixth Contingent to Africa, arrived in port yesterday morning. She left Sydney at about 11 o’clock last Thursday evening, there being at the time a moderate gale with a big sea running. A fhiefc haze set in on Tuesday evening and thick weather, with heavy rain, was experienced right through the straits. Tha Cornwall got alongside the wharf at 1.30 p.m. Captain J. R. Barter is in command, and with him are the following officers:—First, Mr Williams; second, Air Howell; third, Air Usborne; fourth, Air Hume; chief engineer, Air Slade. The Cornwall's New Zealand cargo is composed of about 500 tons of general merchandise, which will all be put out here, and a quantity of sleepers.
