WELLINGTON CLUB’S ‘SPORTS. Thorp was an attendance ■ of dose on a thousand spectators at the Wellington Amateur Swimming Club's seventh annual carnival, which was hold at the Queen’s Wharf yesterday afternoon. An excellent afternoon’s sport was provided,' the swimming of Duilio, a Fexton man. being admirable. The customary ride sports—in the form of soapy boom,- tub races and aquatic tugs-of-war were held, and were provocative of great amusement. An exhibition of hijjh diving was given by Mr G. S. Hill, for which he received an ovation. The best race of the day was the Provincial Championship, in which Hegglin, of Blenheim, won by the barest of touches from Roberts. The City Brass Band played an excellent programme of music during the afternoon. An amusing item was an aquatic farce by Messrs E. J. Fleming, G. S. Hill and T. Shields. Subjoined is a record of each event; Maiden Race, 50yds. First prize, trophy value 20s; second, trophy value ICh. —W. J. Bannchr, 1; C. W. Neilson, 2. Time, 40 l-ssoc.

Hegglin got away at fhe jump, but Roberts forged ahead, and held pride of place to abotit ten yards from home, where JTegglin came again, and: won.
