EVENING ENTERTAINMENTS

OPERA HOUSE. THE ARNOLD SEASON. The inimitable ‘'Jones” was revived at the Opera. House last night._ and served to keep a largo audience in a state of hilarity for a period of two hours. Mr Arnold, in tho name-part, was as- to the manner 'horn, and Miss Dot Frederic ably seconded his endeavours. In the part of Professor Goodly, Mr I. B. Sharp was amusingly realistic, and the characterisations of Dr Goodly (Mr George. Willoughby) anti Richard Heatberle.v (Mr F. H. Denton) were each artistic. Miss Sallio Booth, as Alvina. Starlight, created much 'in'emment. “ On and Off,” another comedy of the farcical order, will be produced this evening. In it a number of novel effects are introduced. The -complications turn on the troubles which, follow a young lady Who, suffering from a nervous affection of tho eyelid, is supposed by every man to be winking at him. Naturally, many humorous situations occur, and Ithrou.ghout tho piece is said to- be provocative' of much merriment. A. phonograph plays an important part in giving'variety and spice, in which some people think “On and Oft” is not inforior to “What Happened to Jones.” Wherever it has been produced it has drawn crowded houses. “On and Oil will bo plaved to-night and on Monday and Tuesday, tho laslb throe nights of the season.

THEATRE ROYAL. The Dix Gaiety Company last night returned to the variety programme, and the change -was well received by a. large audience. To-night the programme will he repeated, when the present combination will appear here for the last time. On Monday Mr Dix will introduce, an entirely new company, including no fewer than eight now faces. Among these are such famed- artists as tho Mintons American representative banioists and 1 trick -dancers,- the Wingate Sisters, acknowledged'premier performers on' the trapeze; Mollie Bentley, a contralto who sings descriptive and motto songs; Maggie Steen, a clever jig dancer ; Torn Dawson; an Australian comedian with a reputation. Tho did favouritds will include the Leslie Brothers, Arthur Hahn, John Tudor, Mabel Male and Rose Andrews. Connie Moroni, a bar performer, will also make his first appearance.

THE HAGAN BENEFIT. The matinee benefit to Air and Al.t Aiartvn Hagan will be given at the Opera, House this-afternoon, commencing at 2 o’clock. A long and interesting programme has been prepared, to which most of the leading members of the different combinations now in the city will contribute. Children will be admitted at half-price to all parts of the ball. Our readers are reminded of the entertainment to be given tins evening in the Federal Theatre by the Seymour Kanema.tograpli and Concert Company. The performance provided by the company will be a, very unique one. There was a largo house present at the Choral Hall last evening to welcome Fuller's Bijou Company. The lengthy programme was listened to with evident enjoyment, and numerous encores were insisted upon. To-night there will be an entirely now programme submitted, in which several novel items will be introduced. - i
