“ OLD CRONIES.”

Theyro Smith’s one-act comedietta. “Old Cronies,” was played by Messrs Clifford Walker and Morris Fox at tnc Sydney street Anglican Schoolroom last night, and gave half-an-hour s delight to a large audience. Mr Walker took the part of Dr Jacks, a man. o* derivations, and Mr Fox was the love-stricken Captain Pigeon. Doth characters were admirably represented, and the actors had the best of rewards ' n the extremely hearty laughter which their citorts evoked. Tho comedietta formed the second part of a. drawing-room entertainment, the first part or which was undertaken' by Mr Walker himself, in the clover and versatile manner chat a goodly proportion of the Wellington public already know him to possess. In addition to items given by him last week, lie was heard in “ tbe bailors Consolation,” an apostrophe by an old salt; “Johnnie, Me and You,” one ot Corncy Grain’s touching transcupts ot street Arab life; “The Fatal Sneeze, a story of the effects of Christmas pudding ; ' “ Sandy MeCTuskie,” a humorous Scotch song: “ Romeo and Juliet (Limited),” au up-to-date version of tile old love tragedy; and 1 the character sketch, “Two Sears; A Cocoanut Man s Storv.” As introductions to each povtion of tho programme, Mrs Alfred Levi played pianoforte pieces with brilliant effect, the numbers being “Waltz Caprice.” (Wieniawski), “ Spmnradchon " (Bendel), and a Hungarian dance by Brahms.

iiie Dix Gaiety Company had a large and enthusiastic audience at the Exchange Hall last night. Mr J. C. Bain continues in well-deserved popularity, his long repertoire of songs and his clever character sketch “ By the Seaside ” being loudly and insistently encored. Miss Olive Lenten gave a naive rendition of a schoolgirl ditty, entitled “ What Do I Caro ?” and received a hearty recall. Mr Bob Hall was well received, and Messrs Charles Hugo. Johnny Collins and Jack Steele each contributed their items in good style. The two Downards gave a musical sketch, entitled “ Bouna the Town,” and “tittle Ethel” twisted and contorted herself in a manner highly pleasing to those whose fancies so inclined. The entertainment concluded with a farce, entitled “ A Quiet iSight’s Rest.” At the Choral Hall last night Fuller’s Bijou Company repeated Saturday night’s programme to a crowded house. The Leslie Brothers enjoy unabated popularity, their musical melange . and incidental quips drawing forth warm applause from tho audience. Mr Will Stevens gave a most amusing turn, mid Mr Sheldon Kindly was warmly received on his vp-appearance with thc_ company. Miss Lynn sang “At My Window ” in a finished and pleasing manner, and the remaining members of the company wero all successful in their several items.

Lazern, the conjurer and illusionist, from the Crystal Palace and; Empire Theatre, London, will appear at tho Town Hall. Otaki, on Monday next, the 27th instant, at Manakau on the 28th, and at Levin on the 29th. Those who desire to be amused and mystified at the same time should not miss seeing this clever and refined entertainer.
