CRITICISM OF CHIEF JUSTICE r • WAY’S PAMPHLET. LONDON, July 13. The Hon C. C. Kingston has written a letter to “The Times” condemning the 'pamphlet which during the appeal controversy was written by Sir Samuel Way, Chief Justice of South Australia, and" privately circulated. The paper is. he says, careless as to facts, reckless respecting the law, and in a general way lacking in candour. SYDNEY, July 14. A demonstration in celebration of the passing of the Commonwealth Act has been made on the border of Victoria and New South Wales. ' Torchlight processions from the town of Alhury (New South Wales) and Woclonga (Victoria), accompanied by bands, met in the centre of the Union bridge over the Murray river, which forms the boundary of the two colonics. The appointment of Lord Hopetoun (formerly Governor of Victoria) as Gov-ernor-General of Australia is officially announced.
