WAR RELIEF FUNDS.

THE MAYOR’S LIST,

At a meeting of citizens of Wellington held on Thursday, the 21st December, the Mayor (Mr J. G. W. Aitken) presiding, it was resolved—“ That a committee be set up to deal with the money subscribed, and to bo subscribed, ' towards the Mayor’s Patriotic Fund for the relief of the distress caused by the present South African war: first, for the benefit of the members of our New Zealand contingent who may cither bo wounded'’or injuriously affected through having answered their country’s call; second, for the soldiers and sailors of tho Queen serving in South Africa,, or those dependent on them; third, for the relief of the South African refugees.” In accordance with this resolution, a ‘ list has

The weather only took up at the last moment, otherwise Forbury Park would have been even more crowded than it was. GREYMOUTH, Sunday. Tho Pollards collected last night over £l4 4s for tho Patriotic Fund. Over £2B 4s was collected by silver: coin thrown on the stage or deposited in a little tambourine in three nights. HAWERA, Saturday. A concert, was held last night in aid of the Patriotic Fund, and was most enthusiastic. A sum of £6O was realised, £lO of which was contributed during the singing of “The Absent-minded Beggar." The local fund now stands at £220, while tho “More Men ” Fund amounts to cloven £IOO.
