“NOT FORGOTTEN.”

During all the bustle attendant on the fitting up and despatch to tho Cape of the second contingent of New Zealanders, it is pleasant to think that “our boys” already fighting at the front have not been left out of mind by those they have left behind them. This was evidenced by tho abundant response made to the offer of the New' Zealand Express Company to send parcels through to the frqnt free of charge. Beginning with a, modest package coiv taining a parcel of songs, the collection grew until nearly, every train and steamer brought 'large quantities of goods collected at the various branches of the company. There was soon a respectable stack in the “contingent corner” awaiting packing, up for shipment. Fathers forgot their wonted reticence and sent their plucky sons a kind remembrance in the shape of a supply of tobacco or a bottle c-f medical comfort, while mothers sent along knitted caps, underclothing, ! cakes, chocolates, lollies, etc. There were supplies of soap, cigars and tinned meat. Cousins and chums vied .with each other in sending some dainty, with an occasional sentence .of - kindly chaff scribbled on the cover, such as “Love to Kruger,” . (‘Keep: your feet dry!” From the bashful 1 demeanour of some of the young ladies , who had parcels to send, it was evident that our young soldiers are still kindly remembered by “the girls they left behind them.” Some idea may be formed of the extent of the consignment when it is explained that, after being packe.d up in specially-constructed cases, it made a good lorry-load, and measured 153 cubic feet,, weighing nearly four tons.
