A cable message from Sydney states tnat Bishop Julius has returned hom a visit to the Pacific Islands. The linn J. G. Ward will leave for the South this evening, in order to he present at a patriotic function at the Bluff on Wednesday.

The (luLo of Mio banquet to bo tendered to the Hun J. G. Ward is fixed for tlio 31st instant at Invercargill. Most of tlio members of tho Ministry will be present. Mr A. L. D. Fraser, M.H.11. for Napier, will be entertained at a banquet by his constituents on Thursday evening. Tlio Premier and tho Hons W. C. Walker and Jas. Carroll will bo present.

A testimonial to tho Hon Major Steward is in course of preparation by tho electors of Waitaki in recognition of tho services rendered by him as their member during tho eighteen years ho has represented them in Parliament. Tho Ilov Dr J. H. and Mrs Taylor, Dr Howard and Mrs Taylor and tho Ilov Southey, who are on a visit to New Zealand, will arrive in Wellington next month. During their slay the Rev ‘J. H. Taylor, founder and director of tho China. Inland Mission, and those with him will address several meetings .in the city, of which duo notice will bo given.

A wedding took place on Saturday afternoon in St. Mary of the Angels’ Church, Boulcott street, when Mr Alexander Marshall, third son of Mr R. A. Marshall, was married to Miss Eveline McAnorin, eldest daughter of the lato Mr McAnerin. The bride, who was attired ir, a neat muslin dress trimmed with chiffon, was attended by Misses Ada Marshall and Ida McAnerin as bridesmaids, whilst Mr W. Bush officiated as best man. The vicar, of St. Mary’s, Very Rev Father Dovoy, performed the marriage ceremony, after which the friends of the contracting parties were entertained by the bride’s mother. Tho happy conple were the recipients of many useful presents.
