CHARGES AGAINST CHINAMET.

Charges resulting from the recent raid on alleged Chinese gambling dens were called on . sterdav in the Magistrate’s Court, before Mr Hascldcn, B.M. Mr Harold Johnston, who appeared for Ming Shaug, charged with having been tho occupier of a common gaming house in Haming street, said his client war. seriously ill, and that Dr. Fell had ordered his removal to the Hospital. Accordingly the case was adjourned till.Mondav.

The el ,;-gc‘i against Look Chuck, Shaug Lee, Young Kee. Ah Tong, Jos On Lee and Joe Kee, of having been found in a common gaming house, were also adjourned till the same day.

John Young Alin, Wong Young. Wong Fong, Wong Sun, Choc Qi'ong, Cod Lee. Joe Toy, Ah Young, Soo rlong'and Edward Oliver of having assisted in the management ■of the house, were proceeded with. Mr Skerrctt appeared for the accused. Detective Nixon proceeded to give aon account, of the police raid on the night •jf Sunday, the 16th instant., Before the witness had concluded his evidence, Mr Skerrctt objected to the information, ns there was no sueeifie charge against each of the accused' all of them having been charged together. His Worship adjourned the case till t he afternoon, in order that he might look up authorities. A number of flic Chinamen failed to apperj* in the afternoon, having misunder- . Quid the older for adjournment, ami the charge'' were therefore all adjourned till Monday.
