DIOCESAN SYNOD.

The Wellington Anglican Synod met again yesterday. -CHURCH CHRONICLE" COMMITTEE. The ‘‘Church Chronicle’’ committee reported that in preparing its balancesheet the committee decided to bring it into line with other diocesan accounts. Consequently, the statement of accounts embraced only the period from the 11th October, 1898, to the 31st March, 1899. The statement showed a balance to credit of £‘lo 11s lid. In the statement of assets and liabilities a probable deficiency of £9 8s Id on December 31st, 1899, was shown. The circulation of the "Chronicle” had now readied 2700 copies monthly, and .with a slight increase of circulation it would pay for itself without any grant from _ the general church fund. It had therefore been decided not to ask for any grant this year. HELP FOR ST. MARY’S HOME. ; Yen. Archdeacon Towgood moved—- “ That this Synod suggests to the clergy of • the parishes and parochial districts of the diocese that .it .would lie well for them to make such arrangements as they may think best in their respective cures for giving assistance to St. Mary’s Home.” Carried. ' SPECIAL OFFERTORIES. : ' Mr H. S. Mclvellar moved—‘.‘That all special offertories shall he deemed to bo, receipts, in'trust, for payment to the treasurers of the several funds for winch collected, within the week following each collection.” Carried. WANTED—A LIST OF CHURCHES. ■' Mr McKellar moved—" That there be prepared and published with the proceedings of the S.vnod a list of . all churches and other places where .church services are held in this diocese; such list to bo arranged in sequence of districts for the East and West Coasts, with the Wellington parishes as a starting point.” Carried. PROPOSED AMENDMENT. Air J. C. Andrew moved—“ That it be a recommendation to the General Synod that Title B. Canon 11. clause 14 be amended by the addition of the following words—‘Provided that in the election of officers of any diocesan synod if no candidate obtain a majority of votes from each order the election shall bo postponed to the next sitting. At such next sitting the election shall ho held, and if no candidate obtain a majority of votes from each order, the candidate obtaining a majority of votes cast, irrespective of orders, may with the consent of the president be” declared elected, and in the event of a tie- the election shall he decided on the casting vote, of tl»e president.’” Lost. STANDING' COALMITTEE. Captain Hewitt moved—“ That the standing , committee consist of. Yen. Archdeacon .Fancourt, Rev :R. Coffey, Roy T. H. Sprott, Rev J. Jones, ■ Rev AY. C. Waters; Air W. H. Quick. Hon F. Arkwright, Mr R. Maunsell, Mr H. J. H. Blow, Mr E. Anderson, Mr W. Fitssherberfe, together with Yon. Archdeacon Towgood, Messrs. G. ■ Wheeler, G. Cox,-J. W. Baker, T. W. Downes, Captain Hewitt and Revs T. B; McLean, H. D. Hunt and C. C. Harper.” Carried. . RESOLUTIONS. The following resolutions, embodying the main, proposals contained in, the report of the finance committee, were adopted as amended: —l. That the standing committee he empowered to x-evise and re-arrange the assessments and appropriations for the parochial districts of Mnnukau, Foxton-Shannon, Levin,- and Bulls-Sandon-Rongotea, and Greatford, in the event of any alteration being made in Hie boundaries of all or any of' these districts. 2. That tho Bishop and the secretary of the general church fund be respectfully requested to arrange for deputations to hold meetings in all parishes and districts for the purpose of considering information with reference to th a general church fund, and to further spread that information by means of printed circulars and,any other means they mav deem fit. 3. That an extra special offertory for the-general church fund be collected in every parish and parochial district throughout the diocese,' at , a time to bo fixed by the standing committee; provided, however, that the ; standing committee may dispense with such extra offertory should it consider that the condition and prospects of the fund render the same unnecessary.
