THE AMEER OF AFGHANISTAN
HIS REPORTED ILLNESS CONFIRMED. LONDON, Saturday. Sir Thomas Salter Pyne, Chief Engineer to the Government of Afghanistan, has confirmed the recent reports as to the Ameer’s illness, and states that lie is unable to walk or stand. Sardar Ilabibiilla Khan, the Ameer’s eldest son, is, adds Sir T. S. Pyne, popular, and likely to maintain bis inheritance. His chief rival is the Ameer’s brother, who is at present in Russian Turkestan.
[lt was announced at the end of December that Sir Thomas Pyne, who for some years had managed the Ameer’s arms, engineering and foundry works, would not return to Cabal. He had been on a visit to England to purchase new machinery, but has apparently not carried his intended resignation into effect.]
