“THE GONDOLIERS.”
To-morrow evening the Wellington Amateur Operatic Society will stage Gilbert and Sullivan’s sparkling comic opera ike Gondoliers” for the first time, when an artistic representation is anticipated. It may be remembered that a plebiscite was taken among the musical people ot Wellington ns to which work the society should next produce, and on that occasion this opera was chosen by a substantial majority of votes, so that more than the ordinary amount of interest is manifested in its production. The cast ot characters looks very strong on paper, and it will be surprising if the performance does not rank as one of the best yet given by the society. "The Gondoliers will be produced under the conductorship of Mr Maughan Barnett, and the stage management is in the hands of Mr Alfred Levi, whose work in this direction is well known. The booking of seats at Holliday’s for the seven nights’ season is very good indeed, and full houses for the first two or three nights are assured.
DRAMATIC RECITAL. H. Mozar and Mr 1. »■ Pope. The programme will appear in tomorrow's issue.
