A TRIBUTE TO NEW ZEALAND.
EULOGY OF MELBOURNE “ARGUS.’ - A SHREWD INDUSTRIAL PEOPLE. (Received May 19, -1.30 p.m. ) MELBOURNE, Friday. Tho “ Argus ” this morning devotes a leading article to the progress manifest throughout New Zealand. Tho “Argus” is highly eulogistic of the colony and its natural resources. Rut it considers that the political policy of tho present Government is not an adequate explanation of the prosperity of tho colony. Tnc truth is, the article proceeds, that tho people of Now Zealand have worked out their own salvation, and in a hundred shrewd ways have adapted industrial enterprise to profitable commercial opportunity. In this, tho “ Argus ” states, the people of New Zealand had been wonderfully helped by two things. First, the people themselves comprised some of tho host representatives of the finest colonising race in tho world. Tho other is. that they have had as a foundation for the achievement of such success the possession of islands that arc rarely rich in natural resources.
