THE TRANS-SIBERIAN RAILWAY.
OPENED TO IRKUTSK. A GREAT COMMERCIAL CENTRE. (Received April 28, 12.50 a.m.) St. PETERSBURG, Thursday. The Siberian railway is being pushed forward, with all possible dispatch. It has now been opened lor traffic as far as Irkutsk.
[lrkutsk is the. residence of tho Gover-nor-General of Eastern Siberia, and is 3722 miles.from St. Petersburg and fort,,' miles from Lake Baikal. Irkutsk is- the best built town in Siberia. ’ It jpossesms a cathedral, a public library, and lias population of 70,000. It is a great commercial centre, and its annual trade c--sot down at a million and a half sterling. A lire there in 1879 did £2,000,000 woivi of damage.] ■
