RACING APPEALS.

THE TANGAHOE CASE. ' ; Sir George Clifford, the Hon J. D. Ormond and Mr. Hi D. Bell, the judges appointed by the Racing • Conference, to deal with certain appeals against disqualification met yesterday ■ to . consider the matters claiming attention. , , . The Takapuna Club appealed against the decision of the Auckland Racing Club in connection with the start for the Hobson Handicap at the Takapuna Meeting. Although the starter declared it a start when Bluecap came in first, the stewards ordered it to- bo run ' .over again. The owner of Blue-cap would not start • the colt, but appealed to the Metropolitan Club, who awarded the race to Blue-cap. The case brought by the Egmont Club is over the disqualification of the hack hurdler Tangahoe and his connections for alleged suspicious running. : The Taranaki Club had refused to endorse the sentence imposed.

In the appeal of the Egmont Racing Chib against the decision of the Taranaki Jockey Club in the Tangahoe case, the judges have given the following decision: —(1) The stewards of the Egmont Club having decided that the horse Tangahoe was pulled, their decision on that point of fact was not (men to review by the Taranaki Jockey Club; (2) the jockey can only appeal for mitigation of the penalty, and the judges consider tfiak the penalty was not excessive; (3) as to the jockey, therefore, the decision of the Taranaki Club is reversed, and the decision of the Egmont Club is restored; (4) the question of the complicity of the owner and trainer is :me of inference from facts, and not on actual fact: there is an appeal in such a case to-the Metropolitan Club; (5) the judges consider that the evidence as to the complicity of the owner and trainer is not sufficient to justify the finding and sentence of the Egmont Club; (6) they therefore affirm so much of the decision of the Taranaki Jockey Club as relates to the owner and trainer. The disqualification of the horse is removed by this decision. ■

Consideration of the Takapuna appeal case has been adjourned until to-morrow night.
