ST. PAUL’S PRO-CATHEDRAL.
ANNUAL MEETING. The annual mooting of the parishioners of St. Paul’s Pro-Cathedral parish .was hold in the Sydney street schoolroom) last night, the vicar (Rev T. H. Sprott) presiding. The vicar, in the course of an address to the mooting, said he was not inclined to "rumble at their financial position, and ho thought next year they would bo able to moot the parishioners with a much more cheerful statement chan the present. He expressed his gratitude to the vestry and the parishioners for their determination- to provide this parish with a new parsonage, in the erection of which every care had been taken by those concerned. The annual balance-sheet showed a deficit of £l9 3s Id. The report stated that, in pursuance of the authority conferred at the special meeting of parishioners, stops have been taken which have culminated in the letting of a contract to Messrs Clark and Thompson to erect the new vicarage on tho site in Bolton street at a- cost of £I2OO. A lease of the parsonage reserve for twenty-ono years has been obtained from the diocesan trustees, and the parish has let for ton years the former parsonage for £45 a year, and tho lawn at the Aurora terrace end at £2O. The site for the new vicarage has been excavated at a cost of £l7 10s. Subscriptions towards the erection of the new! building have been promised, amounting to about £4OO. Tho vestry' have made arrangements to borrow from the Papawai trustees, at 5 per cent., on tho security of the lease, tho moneys that may be required in excess of subscriptions, the £65 a year derivable from the sub-tenancies to bo applied to payment of interest and to tho creation of a sinking fund. On the motion of tho vicar, seconded by Mr E. B. Brown, the report and balance-sheet were adopted.
Tho vicar announced that Mr T. F. Martin had consented to act as • his churchwarden during tho coming year. Mr \V; F. Barraud was re-elected people’s churchwarden. It was decided that the number of vestrymen for the coming year be ton, and the following were elected to act in that capacity:—Messrs E. H. Dean, L. Stowe. O. Pecrc. T. J. C. AVarren, I. E. Smith. J. Ashcroft, R. M. Tolhurst, F. J. Rolleston. H. J. Crowther, and J. Prouse.
At a subsequent meeting, Messrs T. P. Martin, W. H. Quick, G. E. Tolhurst, 0. P. Penvies and K. Parker were nominated for the position of synodsmen. The election will be held on May 9th.
