A few members of . the Horowhenua Boating Club have been out on the lake ,to, ascertain its exact length, and they find that it is in every way suitable for championship sculling contests, says the Levin paper. Starting from the northern bank, they pulled a straight line to between the two little islands on the southern extremity, and found that the accurate distance was five chains oyer the two miles required for the’ championship race. The measurement was taken in a very careful manner and a long time was spent in so doing. An eight-chain cord was used, and at every eight chains a stake, was driven down, which also gave the depth at every interval. Careful notes were taken of the depth as well as the length, and a chart, which has been prepared by Captain- Fosella, will prove most useful for future reference. SWIMMING.
