One of those short and happy speeches that are to the point and are usually appreciated was delivered at the declaration of the poll after the election of a coneillor for Jetty Ward on Friday evening (says the “ North Otago Times ). There were five persons present, including the unsuccessful candidate. The successful candidate was expected to say a few words, and he did. He saxert ‘Well, boys, come and have a drink. The “boys” did, and with a vote of thanks to the successful candidate the proceedings terminated. . ... "Keep your wife s husband out of the public hbuse ’’ by. providing him at home with A. and B. Mackay s liqueur. bb
