; CLOSING OF AUCKLAND EXHIBITION. Auckland, Tuesday. The Auckland Mining and Industrial Exhibition was formally closed to-night by an address in the Choral Hall by Mr B. ' Kent, chairman of the Executive. There were 10,000 people in the Exhibition grounds. Mr Kent said the tinibition had been a great success. Some 100,000 people had paid for admission, exclusive of season ticket-holders. , Ho thanked His Excellency the Governor and Lady Eanfurly for their presence at the opening, and the Government for its assistance. SUPPRESSION OF TYPHOID AT NAPIER. Nai'ieb, Tuesday. Official figures, published by the authority of the Borough Council, show how successfully the sanitary precautions have resulted in suppressing typhoid fever cases. In 1894 there wore seventh-two such cases in the borough ; in 1895 there were sixty cases; in 1896 the number of cases dropped to forty-three j in 1897 there were twentynine cases; last year there were nineteen. This year up to and including February 37th there have been only eleven oases.

THE DISPOSAL OF FUNDS. ' Auckland, Tuesday. To-day Mr Justice Gonolly hold a sitting in Chambers at the Supreme Court in the case of Stichbury v. Banks and "others in 'connection with the disposal of military tournament funds. Mr Burton was sot down to move for the disposal of the interpleader summons. Mr Burtou said it was desired by his clients that all further claims to the funds should bo debarred, so that the money could bo handed oyer at once to the Queen’s Statute Committee.
