' Monday, 23rd January. (Before Messrs James Ashcroft and P. McArdlo, J.’s P.) DRUNKENNESS. Out of seven persons charged with drunkenness five were women.,Only one of the-females was reported as .unknown , to the police. Sho was -charged with drunkenness in Hawkestonc street,' did not appear, and was fined 55." in default 24 hours’ imprisonment. ■ The . other women had previous convictions recorded against them, -wore-dealt with as follows: Hannah Morris, fined 10s, or 48 hours ; Lena Doreen, if away from the city by Fridav, ,tho charge to be abandoned; Kate Ford, fined 10s, or 48 hours ; and Rebecca McLaughlin, fined £l, or 10 days. Two men wore each fined ss, or 24 hours. alleged forgery and uttering. George W. Brigham was charged that on .the 7th instant ho forged the name of J. Pliilpotts to a cheque on tho Colonial Bank, of New Zealand for tho sum of £1 7s Cd, and- uttered the same to Bernard Doherty. Inspector Pender said there was another charge' pending against the defendant. A ■ remand till. Friday was granted. Bail was allowed, tho defendant in a surety of £SO, and two sureties of £25 each. Alleged assaults. - ’Two .Chinamen,-whoso names were® stated -by the interpreter to be Low On |j. and Sing Kow, were charged with as-.‘a sault'ing Nicholas Pemandos, with intent to do-him grievous bodily harm, on Saturday night, in a fruit shop on Lambton quay. Air Jellicoe appeared for the defendants. The prosecutor did not appear in‘ Court, and it was said he was confined to his room in consequence of injuries r-received, By - agreement between Inspector Pender and Mr Jellicoe. the case was adjourned for-a week. Bail was continued in one surety of £lO for each, defendant. A cross information for assault. laid by Sing Kew, was sworn to in Court.
