GAMBLING IN NAPIER.

TO THS EDITOR. Sir, —l notice in your columns lately th*t the police in different parts of tho colony have been taking action against individuals running lotteries, and several have been fined for breaches of the Gaming and Lotteries Act. Now, sir, although in most of the shop windows in Napier placards are to be seen drawing notice to the ‘fact that bicycles, clocks# watches, &c., are to be won for one shilling# no notice is taken by our local police force. If the art union was in aid of any charity I could understand it being allowed to go on, but it is for the benefit of thosq who should be above the breaking of the law. I think the pvlice should also piy more attention to other glaring breaches of the same Act which take place in this town y by doing so they would earn the thanks of many parents whose sons are drawn into gambling habits by the advertised chance of winning a bike for Is.—l ami &c., Anti-Gambler. Napier* May I9th.
