THE SQUADRON.
A visit was paid to H.M.S. Royal Arthur at 10 o’clock yesterday morning by members of the City Council and Harbour Board. The Council was represented by the Mayor (Mr J. Ei. Blair) and Councillors Anderson, Barber, Devine, Willeston, McGill. Higginbotham, liingard, Harconrt and Mr J. E. Page (Town Clerk). The Harbour Board’s representatives wore Mr H. Cook, Mr W. Ferguson (secretary), and Captain Johnson (harbourmaster). Tbs party were conveyed to the warship in the Union Company’s launch Saark, kindly lent for the purpose, and were received with great cordiality by Rear-Admiral Pearson and tbs other officers The Mayor, os behalf of the citizens - of Wellington, formerly welcomed His Excellency and his staff to the port, and hoped that their stay would be a moat pleasant one. Admiral Pearson thanked the Mayor and Councillors for their cordial greetings, and said that in case of any emergency the British navy would give a good account of itself.
Admiral Pearson, attended by Mr Ferguson (private secretary), returned the to both local bodies during the afternoon, being received at the City Council by the Mayor *Mr J. it. Blair) and the Town Clwrk (Mi JE. Page*, and at the Harbour by Mr F. H, Fraser (chairman) and Mr W. Ferguson (secretary), when further courtesies were exchanged. Colon*! Pole Penton (Commandant of the Forces) paid an of&oiai visit to tUo Admiral yesterday morning. Tauranga ia due here to-day from Gisborne.
