MI3HAP TO THE OIL SCHOONER HERCULES. The Marine Department received advice yesterday that the auxiliary schooner Hercules broke her shaft and lost her propeller while crossing the bar (inwards) at Okarito on Tuesday. She is now lying safely at anchor In tho lagoon. It will be remembered that the Hercules was purchased at Auckland by a Hokitika syndicate to take up tho running of tho recently-wrecked Waipara. On the trip from Auckland the forward cylinder began Co leak, necessitating calling into Gisborne for repairs. She then came oa to Wellington, where a series of mishaps occurred, principally caused through defective cylinders. A new one was cast by Messrs W. Cable and Co., which also had to bo repaired after the trial bad been held. After over three weeks' detention here the schooner left for Hokitika, but ill-luck seems to follow in her wake.
