THE VOLUNTEER MOVEMENT.

CIVIL SERVICE CORPS FORMED. A meeting of those interested in forming a Civil Service Volunteers Corps was held at the Courthouse last night. Mr Trogear prosided, and Colonels Fenton and Hume and Major Collins were also present. The chairman addressed the meeting, and explained that there was an advantage in forming a corps of this kind, not only for its own sake, but for the sake of drawing the Civil Service together. Colonel Fenton also delivered a short address. Fifty - five names were enrolled in the room, and it is expected from promises made that this list will be increased to 70 this morning. The corps will be sworn in and elect its officers next Monday night. NEW CORPS FORMED AT WANGANUI. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Wanganui, May 18. At a meeting of young men last night it was decided to form a new Volunteer company to bo callodj tho Wanganui City Guards. Mr H. F. Seager, late of the Dunedin Engineers, was elected captain, and Mr Ridgway, late of the Hastings Rifles, was elected lieutenant, A number of old Volunteers from other parts of the colony came forward, also some from Victoria and One from a Highland regiment- : The meeting was a most enthusiastic one. Ths parados of tho Wellington Guards called for this evening and the Queen's Birthday are advertised in this issue. A requisition is being signed convening a special meeting of the Star Routing Club for tho purpose of forming a Volunteer corps in connection with tho olnb. As the club members number over 390, aud comprise some excellent “bona and- sinew,’’ a splendid corps should hi formed.
