FEDERATION CONDEMNED.
EEPOET OF THE FINANCIAL COMMITTEE. BiiTslegraph.—Press Association.— Copyright. KQoaitud May 13, 1220 a.m. Sydney, May 18. The report of the ommittae recently appointed to inquire into the coat of Federation estimates that the Customs revenue required under the Convention’s schema to enable the Commonwealth to place all the states in a position to moot financial requirements would be .£11,000,000. or if West Australia is excluded £3,0G0,C00 would'suffloe. The committee considers that even the smaller sum would be an impracticable and inadvisable one to raise by Customs duties. , , , A minority report which is attached considers that many of. the estimates are excessive, also that the assumed ratio of imports by New South Wales under the proposed uniform tariff is .one of a more or less speculative character, and that in a very short time How South Wales and Victoria must approximate to a per capita basis. ■
