. BREVITY IN' ADVERTISING IS not an advantage to newspaper proprietors as a rule, though it certainly is to the person who knows how to advertise. An instance is brought strikingly before the public of to-day. After passing 23 years of one’s life in Wellington City, and gleaning experience by good service to employers, faithfully serving them, it behoves a man, as he gets into years, to turn his hand to business on his own account, experience having taught him the fallacy of so many mushroom aspirants leaving good employers and starting on their own, with certain failure staring at them, the loss of their friends, and in the end leave the colony, often with an indifferent character. What we refer to in the first sentence of this paragraph is the now household joke “Send it to Shortt’s.” Brevity in this case has been a remarkable success from one end of the colony to the other, as advantage has been taken by thousands. Furniture of every description has been sent, even Poultry, Hides, Sheepskins and Wool, &c., &o, the letter from the outlying districts round Pelorus Sound, and now consignments are coming from Loudon itself. Surely the world is very small.
