TliS i,Eight Eev .Dr Walsh, Homan Catholio ; Archbishop of Dublin, was bbrn in: Dublin- in 1841. “Ho completed his academia ’ course •in 1861, and subsequently he became assistant librarian at Maynooth College, and in 1867 he was appointed Professor of Theology. In 1878 he became vice-president of the College, and, on the death of Dr Bussell, Dr Walsh wag unanimously chosen president by the Irish bishops. He exeroised no Utt’e influence in m the framing of the Lend Act of 1831. Dtiring the last'few years ho has taken an (ictivo part ih the settlement of trade disputes and Strikes la Dublin ! ho opportunely intervened in the Croat strike on the Great Southern and Western Bailway in 1890, and secured its amicable settlement, a public service for which he received the honorary freedom of the city of Cork. His interest in the cause of temperance was warm and praotical. Dr Walsh cont:ibutcd many articles to tho press. Ho was also tho anther of several works on subjects of general public interest In Ireland.
