' tjp.EYTdWN NduTit, January 21, U .A.fntal 'adcident bccurbed hear Martinierbugh last night, when Mr George Lawrie, residing on the Foatheiston side of the bridge over the Tanberenikau, just outside Martinborough, was thrown from his horse and killed. Ho loft Martinborough in the evening, riding a young horse of which he knew but little, and his dead body was found this morning agar his property. The marks show that he Must have been thrown and then dragged EJoiffiedistance; ; T JJr Bdy'tras'fent fob; and His Opinion is that tho deceased’s neck was broken by the fall. An inquest will be held. , The deceased was at one time a constable in tho Wellington Police Force. He retired about fourteen years ago, and joined Mr Fernandos, the fishmonger there, as a partner. After leaving Wellington he came to the Wairarapa and settled for some time at Eaiwaiwai, where ho was married. He afterwards took up the property where he resided until his death, and has been engaged in the business of a carrier and dealer in wool and skins. The deceased was about 53 years of age, and was a heavy man, weighing about 10 stone. Ho leaves a widow, whoso first husband was drowned in tho Tauhoronikau.
