The Chamber of Deputies has rejected the proposals of M. Lockrey for a largo voto of money for naval purposes. M. Meline, the Premier, promised to introduce the measure early in 1897. M. Bernard, Minister of Marine, said the present estimates, amounting to 72 million frauds, provided for mew warships, beginning with an irdnokd and two cfnisete; attd , the Government wore maturing a scheme for the increase of tho navy.
