THE DUNEDIN HARBOUR
By Telegraph. — Press Association. Dunedin, December 14. A special meeting of the Chamber of Commerce was hold to-day to consider the action of shipping companies in issuing a circular statin* that in future they will carry goods only to Port Chalmers owing to decreased depth of water in the Victoria channel. This means that the importers will have to pay 3s 7d per ton extra. It was resolved that an official notification be sent to the London offices of tin companies of the vigorous efforts the Harbonr Board are now making to deepen the channel, and, in view of the lose and hardship that would bo entailed, that the companies be asked to reconsider their decision, and at least delay the carrying out of the new policy, say, for a year, nnt-i the result of the Board’s operations can bo tested.
