SEN.OR CHAMPIONSHIP. WELLINGTON V. RIVAL CLUBS. Tho 'Wellington - Rival boat for the championship was commenced on the Basin Reserve on Saturday. The Wellingtons batted first, scoring 341 for five wickets. Little can be said of tho play, except that five of tho Wellington batsmen have had a real good time at tho wickets, and the Rival team plenty of exercise. Holdship gave an excellent display, and his score of 107 (not out) was obtained by good cricket, llis total includes (wo s's, one 4, eight 3’s and 24 2*s, C, Gore also rattled uj> a good score (64), and Ashholt batted exceedingly well for 53. Tho Phconix were first to bat, and with a man short managed to put up 64 on tho scoring board before being dismissed. ' Burton (21) and Waters (10) were tho only players to reach double figures. Fitzeimons, alter an absence of some weeks, made bis re-appcarauco with tho Midland team, and was" successful with tho ball, capturing five wickets at a cost of 31 runs. Holdsworth also bowled well, and ins figures were three for 9. The Midlandors hare lost seven wickets for 201. Williams was in good form, and hit merrily for bis CO runs. Lash (with 31), Staples (22) and S. Tucker (19) batted well, and Laws, who is not out, has 24 to his credit. Bight of the Phconix wore tried with the ball.

JUNIOR CHAMPIONSHIP. ■ The Phoenix-Excelsior heat for, tho Junior Championship was concluded on No. 3 wicket, and resulted in a close finish, the former winning by 11 runs. .The Phoenix second innings closed for G 9, towards which Harris contributed 17. Wyatt secured four w ! ckets for 21 and Cole six for||34. Tho Excelsiors only totalled GO in their second attempt, of which Deaville made 17, Sutherland 15 and Cole 12. A. Miller took three for 30, Wilson two for 17, and C. Stevens throe for 15. The total scores were—Phconix, 80 and 59, Excelsiors 68 and 06. The Junior Cup match Petone v. Kilbirnie resulted in a win for tho former by three wickets. The first innings of Petone closed for 88 (Haigh, 9), Greenfield taking eight wickets for 26 runs. The second innings of Kilbirnie- only roalisedjes (McMenamin, 19; and Hoar, 9). THIRD-CLASS CHAMPIONSHIP. In the Third-class Championship match at Kilbirnio, the Kilbirnio second scored 58 (Howartb, 18; A. Bell, 10 ; Taylor, 12); and 60 for 8 (Howartb, 20 • Anderson, 14); against the Midland third’s 55 (Bourke, 25, and Griffith, 12 not out). Anderson six wickets for 25, and A'. The Phoenix-Rival heat for the Third-class Championship was commenced on tho College ground, the excellence of wickets provided there being shown by the high scores which were made.
