Press Association. Christchurch, December 9. •At the Police Court to-day, William Longdin was fined -85 and coats on a charge of being guilty of conduct calculated to provoke a breach of the peace. A Prohibition meeting was held in Cathedral Square last week, and defendant had driven an express through the crowd. A number of men with blackened faces were in the vehicle shouting and singing. The disturbance led to the meeting being given up. , Tho Education Board to-day approved the appointment of a truant officer, and a committee was instructed to frame regulations for the guidance of that officer. Danbvirke, December A young man named Nelson, working on the waterworks contract, was killed this morning, his head being crushed by the limb of a tree. He had lately come from the South Island.
