ANGLING.

TO THE EDITOR, Sir, — I notice in your issue of to-day’s date that a correspondent signing himself “ True Sport ” complains of the “ merciless way ” in which, the trout in tho VVainui-o-mata stream are “ slaughtered ” owing to tho lowness of the water, and ho suggests that tho " selfish contingent of Wainui-o-nmta anglers ” should try their luck at tho Hutt, just to show that they can catch fish there as well. What your correspondent’s capabilities are in other branches of sport I do not know, but one thing to my mind is certain, and that is that he knows little or nothing about trout fishing, for tho veriest tyro in the art is aware of the extreme difficulty of catching fish when tho water is low and clear. In fact, the Wainui stream, at present, is scarcely fished at all, for that very reason. Ho also complains, inter alia, of one "so-called sport” bagging eleven fish, aggregating 201 b. "Why this should be objected to I cannot understand, for it was clearly not tho angler’s fault that ,he hooked hig fish, and had I been the lucky fisherman 1 should have certainly seen no moral obligation to pat the fish back in the stream on account of their size. Were I inclined to be captious, I might suggest that perhaps '■ True Sport ” has tried his luck at Wainui, and in consequence of the low water, and therefore the attendant skill required, he has met with no success—hence his chagrin with the more fortunate anglers.—l am, io, PrscAToa.
