Extract from the English Cyclist, September 9th, 1893:—“NICKEL STEEL will, we believe, sooner or later, be used in the construction of all the best bicycles. Of course, it will, at any rate for a time, be more costly, but one great feature in its favour for tubing is found in its property for resisting the weakening effects of heat. The average steel now used for cycle tubing loses nearly one-third of its strength after being brought to a brazing heat, while nickel steel, besides being stronger, weight for weight, is practically as strong after being raised to this heat as it was before. As every tube in a bicycle is heated, at least in one part, and most of the tubes are so weakened in two places, the advantage of the use of nickel steel can be seen at once, for the strength of a tube, and therefor© of a frame (assuming the joints and brazing to bo perfect), is. broadly speaking, that of its weakest part/' Extract from letter from Pope Manufacturing Company last mail: —“ It is absolutely true that we use Nickel Steel Tubing, according to the statements contained in our catalogue, bottom of page 11, and in other places. Our tube works turn out no other kind of tubing, and as soon as the now mills are in operation the output will be something enormous.
