CONSERVATIVE RAVING, .RAILING AND WAILING.

TO THE EDITOR. Sir,— Your contemporary does not take Its whacking kindly, and the fact of the only titled democrat in the Empire being made to take a back seat in the Empire City representation is wormwood and gall, not only to the late senior member, but to the ultra-Radical frp> n the other side, whose conversion to Toryism was like lightning in ; its rapidity, immediately the editorial chair of the Post became vacant.. .■ The loss of two" seats for Wellington, and only second place for its. democratic Vnight. togethor with the loss of the Wellington Suburbs and Otaki seats, and tho capture of the three new seats in the North Island is almost' enough to cause one to say “shadoof Gillon, where’s the Post now? What a falling off is there, and that notwithstanding the double-headed, doublehanded editorship now existing.” What I complain of, Mr Editor, is this, that tho dual editorship on tho one day is too much ' joy. particularly, when the .only respectably conducted Conservative journal in New Zealand descends to attack us. ladies, whoso only crime is that wo don’t believe in Stoutism, or to be plunged into a cold water bath when and under what circumstances he pleases. There is one' consolation any way, and that is that he has not cbo slightest conception of the working of women's minds, and all his writing and raving will never again reconcile us to one who is neither sincere nor grateful. At the last general election scores of women like myself supported him and worked to secure his return. This time it was a labour of love to work against him, for he is not the man to help the working man. his wife or their children, and to violently attack and sneer at charwomen because they join a political organisation shows him in his true colours. If the supposed Government charwoman had joined tho Southern Cross League, she would ( have been; an enlightened, lady fighting in the cause of freedom having refused, and having joined tho Women’s Political League, she is only a soulless charwoman, acting from fear. ‘What next!—l am, &c.. White Hen.®
