Catastrophe,

By Telegraph—Press Association.—Copyright. Sydney, June In. A serious railway accident .occurred on the Cooiha railway early tins morning'. . The scene o£ the accident was at Qoulburn, about 135, miles S.S.W. of Sydney. It was pitch dark, early in,the mprnjng. when a mixed train consisting of a largo number of trucks and two carriages containing 20 passengers, became partially derailed. The locomotive and several of the tracks rolled over a shallow embankment, but fortunately the roar portion of the train, which included other passenger carriages, remained on the track. The driver McGregor was badly scalded along the back by the escaping steam. A fireman named Morris had a most miraculous escape, as he was imprisoned by overturned trucks, and the debris had to bo cut away before ho could be released. He did not, however, escape scathless, as he received a slight scalding and a few bruises. . Although the passengers received a shock, none were seriously injured, but there was considerable damage to the rolling stock. Received June 16, OAO a.m. Sy'DNEt, June 15.

The cause of the Cooma railway accident is attributed to the fire box collapsing. Complete derailment was only averted by the instant acting of the Westinghouse brake.
