SOVEREIGN. - The sovereign is both an ancient and modem gold coin. In 1459,22 j pieces in valne 20s, “to be called the sovereign,” were ordered to be coined. Since the establishme it of paper money, .£1 notes have to a certain extent taken the place of sovereigns. As much as .£SOOO sterling has been placed, in £1 orders, inside the wrappers under the label of large bottles of Wolfe’s Schnapps, and the custom still continues. For this reason it is better to bay large-sUed bottles, and not rely qq getting the genuine liquor in any other Way- 26
