SATURDAY'S BUSINESS ON THE AUCKLAND EXCHANGE.

Business was brisk on the Exchange to-day, and the noon call lasted close on an hour and a half. , Crown shares again sold at 475, ana \vooastocks at 435. Heavy business was done in Norfolks from 4s 6d to 4s 9d, and City ot Dunedin from 2s 2d to 2s 4d. May Queens were firm at 11s, at which price several linos changed hands with still further buyers. Cardigans sold up to Is lid, and Puru Consolidated shares reached 4s 3d. Waiotabi shares were still wanted at 32s 6d, |but holders stood out for 40s, Alphas were firm, sales taking place at 7s Cd. Hercules shares also advanced, transactions being made at lOd; but later sales wore made at a concession. Imperial shares had a brisk sale to-day, and the price advanced from 2a 2d to 2a 6a, with further strong buyers at tho latter figure. There was also quite a run upon New Zealanders, free sales being made at BJd to 9d. This was no doubt due to tho report that a large reef had been cut on the property. Star of Waibi shares advanced from 4d to Gd, while Queen ofWaihis sold as low as 2s Bd. Waitokauri shares wore still inquired forat£slos, but no sale resulted. Banker's Hill shares again sold at 10s Cd, while Hauraki North, No. 2, 4 and South all sold at a slight advance. The nows of another 301 bof specimens from tho Progress Castle Rock caused those shares to advance to 2s and 2s Id, and the market closed with steady buyers at tho former figure. Welcome .Finds sold at 4a, while there were free buyers of Bay Views at 10Jd. Kuaotunu stocks had few transactions with the exception of a run on Jupiters, which shares advanced from 5s 9d to Cs 9d. A trial crushing of 3891 b of stone from the Alpha claim, Cedar Crock, yielded at the rate of six ounces and a half of gold to the ton. There is considerable excitement in tho locality at tho promising appearance of tho reef. With a capital of JC150.000 in £1 shares tho Waitekauri United Gold Mining Company, Limited, says tho Poll Mall Gazette, has been formed for the purpose of acquiring a number of properties situated in tho Hauraki district of New Zealand, and comprising together over 100. acres. Mr E. M. Corbett, mining engineer, reporting on the claims, says, according to tho prospectus, that the formation of the ground is considered to ho first - class, and contains several reefs which wore successfully worked in other claims some 18 years ago. There is, ho states,/ample water power available for mill purposes, in reference to which certain rights have been scoured. Mr Corbett adds that the prospecting work that has been carried on for the last throe mouths shows that tho reefs are true fissure lodes, being about 10ft thick, and likely to assay from .£2 10s to £A per ton. Tho vendors have fixed tho purchase price at .£IOO,OOO, payable wholly in, shares. Tho public arc asked to subscribe for 50,000 shares for the purpose of providing working capital, ,£25,000 of which, it is stated, has boon already guaranteed.
