GLASS,
The Egyptians are said to have been taught the art of making glass by Hermes. The discovery of glass took place in Syria, and wo know from the ruins of Pompeii that windows were formed of glass before the year 79. The manufacture of glass bottles is of a much more recent date. Some idea of the amount of glass used in bottles may bo gathered from the taot that over n million bottles of Wolfe’s Schnapps are sold every year in Australasia. Whilst this gives some slight idea of the extent to which glass bottles are used, it also emphatically testifies to the enormous popularity and sterling merits of this incomparable stimulant. 22
