FINANCIAL DEBATE. ... The Financial debate will commence in the House at 7.30 this evening. THE. LATE JUDGE RICHMOND. When the House meets this afternoon, the Premier will move tho adjournment until 7.30, out of respect to the memory of the late Judge Richmond. L iSM FOR SETTLEMENT. Messrs Carroll, E. M. Smith, Lang and Lawry waited on tho Minister of Lands yesterday morning, and introduced to him Messrs J. Elliott and J. Houston re the purchase of Native land in the “King” country. Mr Elliott explained the facts of the case and was supported by Messrs Houston, Lang, Lawry and Smith. Tho Hon Carroll explained the legal aspect of the case, and referred to the great advantage of obtaining land for settlement on the road between Waikato and Taranaki via Totara and Awakino. , , Tho Minister expressed pleasure at meeting the deputation, and looked, favourably on the proposal. He, however, requested Messrs Elliott and Houston to submit their proposals in writing! ahddie would consult his'officers, and also place the matter before Cabinet, and 'inform Messrs Smith and Lang of. the decision arrived at.
