THE WARD RECEPTION.
A meeting of the General Committee of the Ward Reception was held at Thomas' rooms last night, Sir Walter Buller being in the chair. There was a good attendance of members, and some important business was transacted. Reports of subcommittees wore brought up, showing that good progress was being made with all the arrangements.
It has been decided that the Colonial Treasurer shall land on Jervois quay, just opposite to Sharland’s warehouse, instead of on the wharf as originally proposed,' far the sake of the increased accommodation thus afforded to the general public. It was announced by the Chairman that the Wellington and Manawatu Railway Company had courteously placed at the disposal of the committee a truck free of charge for the conveyance of tree ferns and other floral decorations; also that the directors of that Company had arranged for the issue of excursion tickets on the Bth July, for the convenience of country settlers who may desire to attend the demonstration ; that is to say, single tickets will be issued on Monday, available for the return journey, without any extra charge, on the following day. The committee expressed their appreciation of this graceful concession. Six new members were added to the General Committee, and the programme for the procession was agreed to. As to this, particulars will be published in due course. A number of the Unions have
signified their intention of taking part in this procession. As this is likely to be on a large scale the committee would esteem it a favour if gentlemen who propose to join in their private carriages will give notice of such intention to tho secretaries in order that space may be reserved for them. It was announced that tho Seddon Testimonial Committee had agreed to postpone operations for tho present, on tho Understanding that after the Ward reception has been disposed of, tho members of this committee will bo invited to merge with tho others for the purpose of carrying into effect the original proposal as to a jubilee address to the Premier.
