WELLINGTON LAND BOARD.

The regular monthly meeting of the Wellington Land Board was held yesterday. Present —The Commissioner of Crown Lands (chairman), and Messrs T. W. Fisher, A. W. Fitzherbort, A. W. Hogg, M.H.E., and Fred Pirani, M.H.E.

W. ■Williams waited on the Board in reference to the transfer of section 05, Levin, from his brother to James Johnson, and it was decided to postpone the matter till September, the Board offering no objection to the application. J. 13. iTingle’a application for Totara Reserve Hi, Block 11., Pohangina (Oroun River), was accepted, the GO acres being weighted with ,£l5O for timber. _ St. Clair Jounnax was granted permission to take his nephew in as partner in Sections 0 and 7, Block VIII., Wainnorn, provided lie fulfilled the residence conditions; J. Jeffries was granted bis title for sections 1378, 1380 and 1382, Bunnythorpe, on improvements effected. t _ Jeremiah Lonergan’s application for title for Section 4, Block VIII., Ongo, was passed under the special circumstances. Brightwell was allowed to surrender Section 13, Block 1., Mangahao', and obtain a fresh lease of half tho section.H. F. Cl off was granted permission to take M. Benz bo permitted to surrender Section 29, Block IV., Masterton Reform Association, and take Section 20, when tho latter has been held 12 months and improvements are effected. To facilitate loafis under the Advances to Settlers Act, the Commissioner was granted power to approve of mortgages to that department. . ~ , T The forfeiture of Section 14, Block 1., Mangaone, A. White, owing to the lease not being signed, was rescinded. The transfer of Section 10, Block 11., Makotuku, from 3f. McLean to C. H. Scarrow, was granted. T. Greenhow was exempted frotn residence on ,Section 34, Block XV., Aplti, during tho Board's pleasure. Tho transfer of Section 31, Block IV., Mangahao, from P. Hansen to W. Buchanan, was granted. In reference to a number of queries put to members of the Marten No. 2 Association, the explanations received were accepted. . _ , , It was decided to call on A. F. Wade to show why he had purchased Section 21, Block XVI., Hautapu, without the consent of tho Board. It was decided to give M. J. Turner, Apiti, one month’s notice to show why Section 21. Block V„ Hrautoi, should not he forfeited. J. W. and W. H. Jenkins application for title for Sections 14, 20, 31 was granted, subject to ranger’s report. Transfer from Moulday Bros, to Cr. McAdam for Section 10, Block XIX., Mangahao, was approved. With reference to the failure of J. Cummings to sign his lease within tho time required by the Act, it was resolved to declare his interest in the land forfeited. Mr J. Leinowebew wrote with reference to his recent selection of Section 21, Block 11., Hautapu, which he finds too rough to keep. The Board resolved to tell him there is no power to allow him to use his deposit for the selection of other land. Tho Under-Secretary for Crown Lands wrote with reference to an application by the Hunterville Hairy Company for a suitable site for a factory. It was resolved to advise the Hairy Company that as dairy factories sites are not included in the Laud Act of 1892, tho Board regrets there is no power to grant the application. It was resolved to issue a new lease to Mr W. A. Burling so that he will obtain an additional area of land adjoining Section 3, Block VIII., Mount Cerberus, on his surrendering his present lease. On the motion of Mr Hogg, seconded by Mr Fitzherbort, it was resolved, “ That the Minister of Lands he recommended to keep the whole of the forest reserve in Block 1., Makuri, at tho confluence of the Manawatu and Tiranmea Rivers, near the Ngaawapurua Bridge, and not allow the reservations to be removed, tho Board having consistently refused all applications for the land on account of its being a spot of great natural beauty, and also because if the bush in the centre of tho reserve is out down the rest of the bush must inevitably be destroyed also.”
