Thurston delays his return to the Pacific Islands until the end of September, when he travels via the Vancouver route. Mr S. C. Buxton, Parliamentary Secretary to the Colonial Office, referring to'the charge of kidnapping of Kanakas brought against the captain and crew of the labour vessel William Munson in Queensland, says it proves that the Government of that colony are fully alive to the preventing abuse in the labour traffic with the Islands. In the House of Commons, in reply to a question, Mr Shaw-Lefevre, President of tho Local Government Board, said the Government was not aware whether Australia, Now Zealand or other exporters disinfected dairy produce, and there was no intention at present on the part of tho Government to legislate on the subject. Professor Huxley is rallying. Tho Government majority in a division on clause 6 of the Disestablishment of the Welsh Church Bill fell to seven.
