By Telegraph.—Press Association. A MAN FOUND DEAD. ' Auckland, June C. An old man.named Thomas Laburn, aged 74, signalman on the railways, was found dead in his house. A verdict was returned of debility and old age. Auckland, June 6. Judge Conolly, after sentencing a man to-day to twelve months* imprisonment for horse-stealing, told two Native witnesses that they ha'd knowingly given false evidence to get the prisoner acquitted. Mr It. Thompson, M.H.R. for Marsden, addressed his constituents at Whangarei, and received a hearty and unanimous vote of confidence. The Licensing Committee of Waikato refused to renew the license of the Royal Hotel on the ground that they had no jurisdiction, there really being no application before it to consider. The licensee had posted a notice on the door, but had not given any notice to the clerk. A bankrupt, Walter Armstrong, in his statement to the Official Assignee stated of his liabilities that on £43 ho was paying interest at the rate of 120 per cent, per annum.

The barn, stable and cowsheds of Francis Bynes, settler at Pokeno, were burned down this afternoon. It is supposed to be a case of incendiarism. The insurance amounts to £2OO, South British.
