From Our Own Correspondent. Mastebton, January 21. A man named Archibald Macalister, whose record is not by any’means a bright one, but who is said to be well connected, was sentenced to two months’ hard labour by Mr T. Hutchison, S.M., this morning for vagrancy, and one month for being a habitual drunkard. The accused recently completed a term for habitual drunkenness at the order of Mr Martin, S.M.

The first meeting of creditors in tho estate of V. A. Pinkey, farmer, was held in the Courthouse this morning. The statement of the bankrupt was to the effect that he had leased a farm for seven years at an exorbitant rental, and through overstocking it his sheep and cattle died of. starvation. He had no offer to make as he had five children to maintain. His assets were JJI 13s Cd and his liabilities JJ436 11s 3d. Harvesting is now in full swing. Threshing operations commenced to-day. Sunday trout-fishing is very poinmon here. Some of the hauls njade yesterday are reported to have been very large.
