THE TOUENAMENT AT DjINEDIN. By Telegraph. — Pres* Association. Dunedin, January l(i. The annual tournament of the New Zealand Bowling Association was continued to-day in fine weather. The final of the Eink Tournament resulted in Kaituna fpunediu) defeating Port phalmers by-29 points to 7. A special meeting of the members of the Wellington Bowling Club was held last night in the pavilion to consider the question holding a bowling tournament at Easter. . About -iO members were "present. Blundell (president of the club) pc ; copied ijie chair, Tije fegjing appeajpsi tp be 'quite’wminimovip that 4 woplfj pe desirable to. arrange' a programme of bowling matches for tho Easter holidays, but the fear was entertained and expressed that if it were termed a tournament it might be construed as a slight,upon the North Island Bowling Association for determining to hold no tournament this year, and that it might mQitate against the success of the tournament which the Association has arranged to hold in Auckland-nest year. Although a section of those present
maintained that such apprehensions -wore groundless it was. deemed wiser by the majority to avoid any causa of offence or misunderstanding. After several propositions had been tabled and fully discussed it was therefore resolved upon the motion of Mr If. E. Orady (vice-president), seconded by Mr T. L. Churchward, to invito such bowling clubs as are o» ing the Wellington Club a visit to pay their visits at Easter, and it was farther decided upon the motion of Mr H. Hasolden, seconded by Mr J. M. Qeddis, “ That it be a recommendation to the directors of the Wellington Bowling Club that they arrange for a programme of inter-club matches, pairs matches and singles." Tho Thorndon and Newtown Bowling Clubs are to bo included in tho invitation to take part in the matches. A vote of thanks to tho chairman closed tho proceedings.
Tho Thorndon Bowling Club have received an invitation from tho Palmerston Bowling Club to send up threo or four rinks to play an intor-club match at Palmerston on Tuesday next (Anniversary Day). Tho matter is to bo considered by the Thorndon Club on Saturday next. A match for tho possession of tho Edwin Challenge Badges was played yesterday afternoon on tho Wellington Bowling Green, between L. Blundell, Churchwards, Maudsley and Ballinger (skip), ..who have held tho badges during tho past two months or so, and a team from the Thorndon ' Bowling Club, consisting of Mclntyre, Murdoch, Barry and Lindsay (skip). Tho game was 21 heads up, and it was very keenly contested. At tho end of tho 19th head tho Thorndon bowlers had scored 17 points to thoir opponents’ 15. In the 20th head Ballinger’s team got on oven terms by scoring two more .points, and in tho final head they scored the winning point. Thorndon scored in 11 heads, and Ballinger’s team in ton heads. This makes tho seventh contest for the badges that Ballinger's team have successively won.
