At a meeting of the Board of Governors of the Canterbury College to-day, it was decided to establish a biological laboratory, and plans were adopted. The Estates Committee reported in favour of the properties of the board being brought under the Public Bodies’ Powers Act, but a motion adjourning the consideration of the matter till next meeting was carried. AN AUCKLANDER KILLED AT THE ISLANDS. Auckland, January 14. News has been received that a young man named Samuel Lowe, about 28 yeats of age, a carpenter, whoso people live at Arch Hill, was killed at Nukualofa, Tonga, by a native named Yeni, during the New Year festivities. It is alleged that the native rushed at Lowe with a heavy stone, and struck him violently on the head, death resulting in about an hour. Christchurch, January 14. The yachts Masootto and Pastime will leave Lyttelton to-night for Wellington to take part in the regatta on January 22nd. At the Bible Christian Church annual meeting to-day the following officers were nominated : —Rev B. H. Ginger, chairman ; Rev J. G. Wellis, chapel secretary; Rev F.
