At a meeting Of tho Hospital and Charitable Aid Board to-day a report was read from the master of the Gostley Home, stating that a young woman gave birth to a child in a cab while being conveyed from Auckland to the maternity ward' at' the Home—a somewhat similar occurrence to the Charlotte Chamber episode. On arrival there the matron did all she could for the mother and child. The infant was found alive in the cab, and is now getting on well. Cheistchueoh, January 8. The Eev IV. G*ant, of Leestou, has been appointed moderator to'the Presbytery of Christchurch. i The Drainage has decided to erect a dam jn the Avon to raise the water sufficiently to cover the mud banks exposed by the recent dredging operations!
