Tho Now Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company have received tho following market quotations by cable, dated London, August 3 : Frozen moats Canterbury mutton, 3§d per lb, market firm ; Wellington mutton, 3d, market weak; Now Zealand beef, forequarters, 3id; do., hindquarters, 4fd ; lamb, prime New Zealand, per carcase, 4§d. Tallow —Market slightly steadier. Fine mutton, 24a Od per cwt; good beef, 235. Wheat—Market very weak. Now Zealand average, 24a 3d per 49(Ub; do., long-berried, 20s Od per 4001 b ; do., f.a.q.y to arrive, c.i.f., per 4801 b, 22a 6d. A. 0. Taino and Co. report on their horse sale to-day as follows: Owing to the boisterous weather, there was only a small entry and business was b/td. We offered on behalf of Mr Fleming, of Ashburton, two useful draughts and two light harness horses, which were all passed in unsold and are now for private sale. Very few others changed hands, and wo have no quotations to make. Buggies and other vehicles shared a similar fate. Townsend and Paul report on tho horse market us under:—The bad weather curtailed tho arrivals from the country. A large attendance of onlookers were present but few buyers, and many entries had to bo passed in. Wo sold hacks at *C4 10s to ss, and light harness horses at £7 to «£B. No heavy draughts wore entered and express and spring-dray stamps were not in the yard. A bay stallion, a perfect type of a compact draught horse, was passed in at 70 guineas, but we are open to deal privately for him.
